Welcome
Welcome to the Saint Helena Community Band web site.
Today's community band picks up on a tradition begun in the
1920s with the St. Helena Municipal Band. That band was
founded at a meeting in the Oddfellows Hall on Main Street
in Saint Helena in 1921.
In the Fall of 2007 Francis Ford Coppola, the celebrated filmmaker, and
John Sorensen of today's Odd Fellows organization fancied a
reprise of the hometown musical tradition and made plans for
the return of the
community band.
Under the direction of Michael Mendelson, the band played
their first concert on Saturday December 1, 2007 on the bandstand in
Lyman Park for the Hometown Holiday Celebration.
The band gratefully acknowledges the support of all members
of the Napa Valley community. To receive notices of upcoming
performances, please subscribe to the monthly email
announcements.
"A community band could be a wonderful thing that could get
us all together as neighbors." - Coppola
