Golden Gate Park Gig Wins Kudos for the Band - Listen to concert selections

Sunday, June 13, 2010

As the final group performing in the weekend long Golden Gate Park Band Festival, the Saint Helena Community Band filled the band shell Sunday at 4:00 PM and played a varied repertoire from Gershwin to Saint-Saens's Danse Bacchanale to Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. On a delightfully warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, the Band played to an appreciative Golden Gate Park crowd sitting on park benches before the stage of the Spreckels Temple of Music, a domed classical pavilion built in 1900.

The Golden Gate Park Band Festival leaders delighted The Band by reporting " ... although the Saint Helena Community Band was one of the smallest to appear at the Festival, they were one of the better bands. They played beautifully. Michael Mendelson is an excellent conductor who chose an entertaining program that was well suited to the band and enjoyable to the audience."
